Positions

The following positions are available in various Head Starts, preschools, and elementary schools throughout Minnesota.

  • All positions begin in August, 2010.
  • Full-time and part-time positions are available.
  • It is preferred that part-time members be able to serve five days per week.
  • There are more than 600 openings throughout Minnesota.

Preschool Literacy Tutor - Community Corps

Age group: Preschool (ages 3 - 5)

This member is embedded into a classroom of children ages 3 - 5 to develop children’s early literacy skills in preparation for kindergarten. The member collaborates with the classroom teaching staff to enhance daily literacy opportunities and conduct literacy assessments to ensure children are on track to read by the end of 3rd grade.

Preschool Literacy Tutor - Professional Corps

Age group: Preschool (ages 3 - 5)

This member is a current employee at an existing Minnesota Reading Corps site who works with children ages 3 - 5 to develop their early literacy skills in preparation for kindergarten. The member enhances daily literacy opportunities & conducts literacy assessments to ensure children are on track to read by the end of 3rd grade.

Elementary Literacy Tutor

Age group: Elementary (Kindergarten - 3rd grade)

This member works one-on-one with K-3 children who need help practicing their reading skills. The member will use prescribed literacy interventions and will conduct weekly progress monitoring to ensure the student is on track to read at the end of 3rd grade.

Volunteer Coordinator

Age group: Adult volunteers and MRC students (Age 3 - 3rd grade)

This member will serve in a full-time capacity in one or multiple MRC sites and will be responsible for recruiting, training, and supporting community volunteers who dedicate time directly or indirectly helping young people learn to read.

Family Liaison

Age Group: Parents and their preschool aged or elementary aged children (age 3 to 3rd grade)

This member will serve between one – four elementary schools/pre-schools and is responsible for the outreach and communication to families about the importance of early literacy and the training of early literacy strategies to family members in order to support their child in learning how to read.
