What steps does the application process involve?
If you apply for Minnesota Reading Corps, you will be required to go through several steps during the interview and selection process. See an explanation of these steps on the Interview and Selection Road Map.
When is the application deadline?
Applications are accepted until all positions are filled. We encourage applicants to apply early. There is a priority deadline of February 1st. If you apply by that date, you will be among the first to be interviewed.
Is this a paid or volunteer position?
If you join Minnesota Reading Corps, you are joining a service program - not entering into permanent employment. In exchange for their service, members receive a biweekly living allowance of approximately $435 for full-time members or $220 for part-time members. Read more about other benefits.
What are the minimum qualifications?
The minimum qualifications are listed below. Review the position descriptions for a complete list of qualifications. You do not need a teaching license.
* High school diploma or GED
* 18 years of age
* US citizen or National
When can I expect to hear from someone regarding my application?
If your application passes the initial screening, you will receive a phone call from a staff member within approximately 5 business days of submitting your application. If your application does not pass the initial screening, you will receive a letter in the mail.
I'm not good with computers, is the application available in another format?
The application is only available online.
How competitive is the application process?
There are more applications received than there are positions available. To make your application more competitive, submit your application early (winter - early spring). Also, impress interviewers with your knowledge about Minnesota Reading Corps and your eagerness to make a one-year commitment.
If accepted, when would I begin serving?
Your service begins with training in the early part of August and would conclude in June 2011.
